Does Arizona Have Self-Defense Laws?
Arizona does not have an explicitly titled “stand your ground” law. However, Arizona laws do allow people to defend themselves. Arizona laws do not require individuals to retreat before defending themselves when they are in a threatening situation. Therefore, if you are not engaged in an unlawful situation and you are in a place you have a right to be in, you have the right to defend yourself when someone threatens or assaults you.

Get StartedArizona Limits When Practicing Self Defense
Although Arizona laws allow individuals to practice self-defense, they must do so with reasonable force when immediately necessary. For example, if someone pushed you while approaching your vehicle parked on the street, you cannot walk to your car to retrieve a baseball bat and swing at the aggressor. In that situation, a baseball bat would be considered a dangerous instrument that can cause serious injury or death. A reasonable amount of force in that situation is to push the aggressor back.
However, if someone pointed a gun at you and you reasonably feared for your life, you would be in a justifiable situation to get a deadly weapon to defend yourself. In other words, the weapon or force used should reasonably match that of the aggressor.
Defense Against Home Intruders
What if someone breaks into your home without a deadly weapon? Would you have a justifiable reason to grab a deadly weapon? Arizona does allow you to use physical force and deadly force when reasonable to prevent several serious crimes – including burglary in the first and second degree.
