incidents of driving under the influence on state roads. They are often
able to stop drivers who seem to be impaired and check into the matter
before any serious crashes or injuries happen. Other times, when an accident
involving an impaired driver has occurred, law enforcement authorities
will be quickly on the scene to address the situation. However, a recent
Phoenix DUI case centers on a sergeant with the University of Arizona Police Department.
The sergeant was arrested due to suspicion of DUI last Saturday night.
The arrest occurred after he crashed into a traffic sign while driving
a department SUV. He was on duty at the time.
The sergeant, 27, hit the sign and also ran into a cement wall. This happened
on the Interstate 10 frontage road, close to Speedway, at approximately
9:30 p.m. The vehicle he was in was a marked department SUV, according
to a spokesman for the Tucson Police.
When officers investigated the crash, they noticed both signs and symptoms
indicating that the sergeant was possibly impaired. Correspondingly, he
was arrested and a DUI investigation was launched. The arrest was based
on suspicion of
super-extreme DUI because of blood alcohol content level of .20 or greater. He was also
charged with three lesser DUI charges, criminal damage and failure to
control speed to avoid a collision. The sergeant was released after being cited.
The sergeant in this case will need to address his involvement in an incident
with multiple facets, as affirmed by the accusations against him. Since
DUI incidents occur throughout Arizona, anyone involved in one should
